Visitors - What to Expect?

Visiting a new church for the first time can be daunting.  Whoever you are, and wherever you are on life's journey, you are welcome here!

Worship Times

Our worship time normally begins at 9:30am on Sunday mornings in the sanctuary.  The service lasts approximately 60 minutes and conains an opening hymn and liturgy, children's sermon, choir anthem, sermon, prayer, offering, and other traditional parts of worship.

Worship Format

Our normal worship service follows the format suggested by the United Church of Christ Book of Worship. It includes the acts that have characterized Christian worship since earliest times:
  • Praise,
  • Confession,
  • Proclamation, and
  • Response.
Everything that you need to participate fully in worship is included in the printed bulletin. In addition, much of the worship order and wording is projected on a large screen to the right of the altar area. The three hymns are numbered in the bulletin; you can find the hymn in the New Century Hymnal (located in the pew racks) and you will see the words to the hymns projected on the screen.

All of our services offer opportunities for you to participate by reading, singing, praying, and listening – to scripture readings, the sermon, and to music. At the beginning of service, we greet each other and pass the peace of Christ to each other.

Communion is offered s on the first Sunday of the month. All are welcome at Christ’s table, no matter where you are on your spiritual journey. Communion is offered to everyone while they remain seated, although we will sometimes have communion in a traditional manner, by intinction during which worshippers will walk to a communion station, take a piece of the bread of life and dip it in the cup of blessing. You will be given clear instructions on Communion Sunday as to the way in which the sacraments will be offered that day.

At all of our services, we follow the ancient Christian practice of receiving an offering to support the Church’s ministries. We welcome your gifts and encourage everyone to consider how to best live a life of generosity. If you are unable to give financially, please consider an offering of time or talent to the church, another organization, or a neighbor in need.

Inclusive Language

You may hear and see wording used in the hymns and other parts of worship different than you are used to. We usually incorporate language that is truly inclusive with respect to God and to people.
